The iconic Italian race the Mille Miglia races through the streets of italy every May, 375 exquisite, vintage cars doing exactly what they were designed to do. The cars are an attraction in themselves, usually only seen in museums or hidden away under dust covers and cocooned away in owners garages these priceless antiques storm through the villages, towns and countryside with no respect to their value. However, the real attraction is the history and uniqueness of the event, nowhere else is there such a gathering of priceless automobile history and nowhere else would such a gathering be celebrated with such enthusiasm and genuine interest.
The event was first run in 1927 running from Brescia to Rome and back again, covering some 1009 miles. The event ran for thirty years until the Marquis de Portego crashed his Ferrari 735 Sport Scaglietti and killed himself and 15 others. Not even Italy's passion for the race and racing in general could justify cars travelling at 150mph through towns and villages and following the rest of Western Europes lead the race was banned. The race wouldn't die just like that though and the race continued as a procession - the participants obeying the laws of the roads (although they may occasionally be pushed somewhat). The historic race attracts visitors from across the world and provides the inspiration for one of the most iconic fashion jackets the CP Company Goggle jacket.
In 1988 C.P. Company sponsored the race and for this special occasion Massimo Osti exclusively designed and produced, as a promotional piece for the Mille Miglia competitors, the very first Goggle Jacket. This first version was personalized with the unmistakable red arrow of the 1000 Miglia® logo and featured the hood with incorporated goggles and the watch viewer placed on the left wrist.
In 2009 the 20th anniversary Goggle jacket was produced to celebrate the companies involvement in the race and CP continue to make this iconic jacket for an iconic race. The jacket certainly captures the history and uniqueness of the race in a garment fit for a gentlemen racer.
